| The Torres Family--East
Stroudsburg, PA
The Torres' have been married for 15 years. Early in their marriage both had similar burdens for adopting orphans. Their pursuit of adoption was postponed by having 6 biological children of their own. Amelia, their 5th biological daughter has Down syndrome. Since experiencing the blessings of having a child with Down syndrome, their adoption interests changed to orphans with Down syndrome, especially overseas. In 2005 they successfully adopted Yulia, from Russia, a 2 year old girl with Down syndrome. Yulia is thriving in her large family environment, which provides plenty of stimulation. The progress she has made is both exciting and rewarding for each family member. The Torres' continue to have a burden for children with Down syndrome and are currently pursuing two little girls who can grow up as sisters. The Torres' view adoption as a joint ministry with all who make adoption possible, especially those who give. Because of the cost of adoption, fund raising is a necessary element to their adoption pursuits. They would like to thank in advance all who give to make this adoption possible; you are truly a blessing. Religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation--unspotted to keep himself from the world. DJ and McKenna Powell are hoping to adopt Larisa (Reese) from Eastern Europe. Larisa was born in December 2007 with Down syndrome and a cleft lip and cleft palate. Her cleft lip and cleft palate will be repaired as soon as she comes home to her forever family. DJ and McKenna have been married for nearly 6 years and have two beautiful children, ages 4 and 2. Their daughter, Darah has Down syndrome and has inspired them to adopt another child with Down syndrome. DJ works for an insurance company and McKenna is a stay at home mom and student studying Speech Pathology. They are strong Christians who feel honored to be given the opportunity to adopt a child. There is nothing more symbolic of Christ's love for His children than the beauty of adopting a child. DJ and McKenna appreciate your prayers and your financial support in their adoption process. | The Van Nice Family--Grundy Center, IA
Brigitte and Joe Van Nice hope to adopt Paul from Eastern Europe. The Van Nice's have been married for 8 years and have three little ones at home already. Josie (4) and DS, Katie (3) and Owen (1). Paul is only one month younger than Owen, so it will be like having twins. Having Josie has opened their eyes to the wonders that children with Down syndrome can add to a family. It has made them realize their dream of adding another angel to their family. Brigitte is actively involved in their local Designer Genes Down Syndrome Group. Joe and Brigitte, along with three other families started this group 4 years ago, which is now a non-profit servicing a good portion of Northeastern Iowa. Joe works full-time as a Foundry Quality Control Specialist and while Brigitte spends most of her time staying at home with the kids, she does work very part-time for the Iowa District Court System. | The Sensiba Family---Germany
David and Amy Sensiba are hoping to adopt our little Elisabeta in Eastern Europe. She is almost 4 and facing institutionalization. Unfortunately, she has spent 2 years longer in the orphanage than she needed to because of paperwork problems, so we are so glad to finally have a family for her and know she will be clear for adoption very soon! When David and Amy met they had many discussions about their future together. They had both been through serious relationships prior and did not want to waste any more precious time if they both were not on the same page about major goals for life. One of those major goals was to adopt a child with special needs. David and Amy have now been married for ten years and have two biological children; Alexandria is seven and William is two. David is a social worker in the United States Army and Amy is an Assistant Director of a Child Development Center. They are currently stationed and living in Germany. David and Amy are excited and anxious to bring another sibling into the family for Alex and Will to grow up with and care for! Adopting a child with Down Syndrome is a "meant to be" for the Sensiba family. We are grateful to the armed forces members in our group, and are glad to welcome the Sensibas as they are stationed overseas! 1/2/09---HOME STUDY COMPLETE!

| The Layne Family--Ashville,
OH
Doug and Cara Layne are hoping to adopt our precious little Melanie from Serbia! They first became involved with orphans from Ukraine in 2005 through a hosting program. After hosting the same little boy for 3 summers, their hearts were set on adopting him. With paperwork sent to Ukraine, and a SDA date in hand, they received word that the little boy they had fallen in love with went home with his birth mother. Heartbroken, Cara and Doug knew that God had lead them to Ukraine for a reason, so continued to follow the Lord and traveled to Ukraine in October of 2007. God’s gift to them came in a small package—a 3 year old “Anya” who weighed just 16 pounds, born with Cerebral Palsy. She is now thriving in her home environment and is the joy of Doug and Cara’s life. Cara is a special education teacher. Her youngest sister; Amy; has Down Syndrome. Cara knew Doug was the one for her when he loved Amy as much or more than he loved her! Wanting to adopt again, Cara and Doug were planning to adopt a child with Down syndrome, but fell in love with Melanie and have committed to bring her into their family. Both Cara and Doug know that the road ahead is a long journey, but with the support of the Lord, family, and wonderful friends, all things are possible. They hope that little Melanie will bring joy to everyone who will meet her. 9/24/08---HOME STUDY UPDATE IN PROGRESS I have $200 in my FAMILY grant fund towards the cost of my adoption! | The Garcia
Family--Clarksville, TN
Frank and Renee Garcia met in 1997 in Riverside, California where they both attended California Baptist University. They dated for a little over a year and then got married on December 19, 1998. The birth of their oldest daughter, Kassidy, came a mere 11 months later and exactly 2 years after that Renee gave birth to a son, Kameron. In 2003 Frank joined the U.S. Army and while home on leave from his training Renee became pregnant with their 3rd child, a daughter they named Kennedy. Several months later, the Army moved the Garcia family from California to Clarskville, TN. When Kennedy was born they discovered she had Down syndrome and started researching right away. Kennedy went through what seemed to be one medical issue after another from her birth through 2007 when she was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. She went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy and is currently in remission. In 2008 she underwent spine fusion surgery for Atlantoaxial and Atlanto-Occipital Instability. She is recovering well. Frank and Renee talked about adoption when Kennedy was very little. They talked briefly about adopting a little boy with Down syndrome but in 2006 Renee became pregnant with their 4th child, a son named Keeghan. After Keeghan’s birth Frank and Renee felt their family was complete. Renee learned about Reece’s Rainbow through the Down syndrome community and brought awareness to it on her blog and followed several families who were bringing children home. One day she spotted Victoria’s picture and started asking questions about her. She took her picture and information to Frank who was immediately ready to bring her home! Renee however dragged her feet while the Lord worked on her heart and they finally committed to her around Thanksgiving 2008. When Frank returns from Afghanistan they will begin the long (and hopefully painless) road to adoption. Frank, Renee, and the kids: Kassidy (9), Kameron (7), Kennedy (4) and Keeghan (1) are very excited to bring their new daughter and sister home! They just have to think of the perfect K name for her!

The Hansen Family--Olathe, KS
The Hansen family is hoping to adopt Francesca from China. The Hansen’s have four children ranging in age from 23 to 4 and the whole family is so excited to be adding 5 year old Francesca to the family. Adopting from China is not new to the family – their youngest child was adopted from China in 2005. Hearing the call to adopt again, the family submitted their dossier to China in September 2006, beginning a second adoption journey. After much praying and waiting, the family was so blessed to find Reece’s Rainbow and Francesca and now they know that this precious little girl was the daughter for whom they were waiting. Having a family member with DS also is not new to this family so they already have a very special place in their hearts for those with DS. Although the Hansen’s dossier is already logged in, they are now rushing to renew their homestudy and immigration paperwork with hopes of traveling to bring little Francesca home as soon as possible. The whole family is so excited to be adopting Francesca and is so grateful that God led them to Reece’s Rainbow and to Francesca.

The Lackamp Family--Oak Ridge, MO
The Lackamps were high school sweethearts and married soon after. They live in MO and have a grown daughter, Amber, who works with children with special needs. While doing research, she discovered Reece’s Rainbow. God led her to Garrett and when she showed him to her parents they fell in love with him! He is just adorable and is in desperate need of medical treatment. At birth, Garrett was diagnosed with hip joint malformation, articular joint malformation. It was believed that without surgery he would be bedridden for the rest of his life. However, Garrett is very smart and has recently started teaching himself to get around. Garrett also struggles with strabismus (lazy eye), but is very active and friendly and loves music and games! After much prayer, the Lackamps felt called to adopt Garrett and give him the loving family he deserves. Rob and Amy met on the church playground and married 20 years later. They have 4 children (2 boys, 2 girls). Rob works in law enforcement and Amy is an elementary school teacher turned stay-at-home/homeschooling mom. Their journey with Down Syndrome began in December 2003.
For the first 8 ½ months of pregnancy several ultrasounds showed a healthy baby girl. Two weeks before Amy’s due date with their second child, the doctor found fluid in the baby’s lung. An hour later another doctor confirmed the fluid and added an AV canal defect and a short femur. Two days later a specialist informed Rob and Amy that the baby would have severe Down Syndrome and would not live to the due date. He said that even if the baby survived birth, it was so sick it would live only a couple of hours or maybe days. “The baby will never walk, talk, eat or even breathe on its own,” the specialist said. He then offered an amniocentesis to confirm the diagnosis and told Rob and Amy that they would need to “take care of it” quickly before labor started. The specialist assured them that abortion was the best option because no one should have to have a baby with so many problems. During this conversation, the nurses and the genetics counselor noticed the baby in Amy’s tummy moving all over the place. It was as if Lexi was saying, “Hey! I can hear you. I’m still alive. Give me a chance!” Rob and Amy declined the amniocentesis and informed the doctor they would not abort their baby. They were then sent to a cardiologist.
Lexi was born three days after Christmas. She stayed in the local hospital for five weeks before being airlifted to another hospital. When she was 2 ½ months old she came home with a g-tube and a lot of medication. Over the next few months she survived RSV, heart surgery and a few medical errors. At 5 ½ months old, she was home to stay.
Lexi is now 4 ½ years old and thriving. She began to walk independently a little over a year ago. A few months ago, she started really talking (a lot!!!). She knows ASL, loves to sing and dance, and is determined to learn to read. She is a walking, talking, smiling miracle from God.
Rob and Amy first learned of special needs adoption shortly after Lexi was born. They decided that whatever Lexi’s outcome would be, they would pursue the adoption of children with DS. This is their first experience with adoption. Rob and Amy fell in love with Angelina the moment they saw her. Won’t you please partner with Rob and Amy in prayer and support to bring Angelina home soon? 12/30/08---HOME STUDY COMPLETE I have $120.63 in my FAMILY grant fund towards the cost of my adoption! |

| The Gamble Family--Dahlonega,
GA
Chris and Angela Belle Gamble met in 3rd grade and spent some of their elementary years in the same classrooms. Chris then went to New York to pursue his engineering degree, while Angela Belle pursued her elementary education degree in Texas. After college, God once again crossed their paths. They have now been married 12 years. Chris is an engineer, and Angela Belle is a stay-home Mama to their 3 blessings (ages 10, 6 and 3). Last May, Angela Belle gave birth to their 4th child, Elijah, who was stillborn. It was the deepest valley they had ever walked through, but soon after, God spoke very clearly to their hearts that they would go into orphan ministry. He allowed the pain of losing a child to be the beginning of a beautiful journey to minister to children who have lost parents. They are in the beginning stages of their orphan ministry (which is titled “DO” for “Defending Orphans,” based on Isaiah 1:17… “Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows.”). The Gamble family has been praying about adoption for over a year. They know adoption is God’s heart, as He adopted them as His own children grafted into His family. They believe God has a perfect will and plan for every child, and they have been asking Him to place into their hearts the child He has planned to graft into their family. They discovered Reece’s Rainbow and were deeply touched with the beauty of this ministry. They began to pray for many of the children. Chia-Fen grew in their hearts, so they have placed their feet on the path towards her adoption. Her sunshine is apparent, even in one small photo! J She has 3 siblings (1 sister and 2 brothers) already excitedly awaiting her arrival home. They are going to be wonderful with her! Psalm 68:5-6a, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows---this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families….” This is the Gamble family’s journey of faith. They trust that God will provide everything they need to bring His precious child into their loving arms and home.

Sean and April Duffy are so excited to be adopting our little Tina from Eastern Europe. She is already 5, so we are thrilled that she will have a family now.
Their adoption journey happened by chance. They have always been interested in children with Down syndrome. Then a dear friend of theirs sent them an email attachment about a little girl in desperate need of a forever family. They had received other emails about adoption, but this email really stuck out. As soon as they saw the picture of Tina they fell in love! She is a child with Down syndrome and has been waiting for a home for 4 years!
After some thought and prayer, the Duffys decided that they wanted Justina to come and live in their family. They have three biological children, Hannah 12, Aidan 9, and Julian 6. They can’t wait to have a new “little sister”! Sean and April know that financially the road will be long. But, they know in their hearts that they can offer Tina loving home. She will have all the educational and medical resources available to her. She will just blossom in her family!
Adoption from this country is quite costly, so your financial support of the Duffy's adoption of Miss Tina is greatly appreciated. They are just in the beginning stages, but she has many relatives and friends waiting to meet and support her! Thank you for your help! 9/17/08---HOME

NC
The Brown Family are from North Carolina and have 11 children . They have 2 biological children, and 9 adopted children from the USA Foster care system. Through the years, they have been foster parents to a total of 14 children!! They showed these children that God loves them and that he blesses and inspires certain adults with different gifts to take care of them. Steven and Jenny not only spoke the words but proved to these children that they would never be abandoned. For those children who were able to return home, they worked with the parents, social workers and children ( some for a little as a few months others for as long as a year ) to make this transition easier. For those children who did not have a home to return to, they stayed with them. The number of children jumped to nine adopted when they answered God's call and adopted a sibling group of six who lost both mom and dad. These children have grown in so many ways and have shown many people including Steven and Jenny that despite a child's rough beginning ...a loving stable home makes all the difference. Children with special needs are not new to the Brown's either. In 2005, they became foster parents to a child who needed a liver/intestine transplant after a year of frequent medical visits and different consults the medical team told them that this child would not survive the transplant and at 2 years old he went to be with Jesus. He had inspired them in so many ways that they were drawn to Reece's Rainbow. Steven and Jenny know international adoption is not easy but pray help will come from many ( those who know them and even those who do not... but are touched by their life devotion to children ). Steve and Katie Conner are hoping to adopt one of our little darlings from Bulgaria! We have been so blessed with the cooperation of the officials there to seek families for their waiting children with Down syndrome, and "Graham" is one of several who have already found families! The Conners have been married for 16 years and blessed with seven living children. Four more children have gone to heaven after miscarriage and are also very special members of their family. Steve is a family physician in the military—soon to be a civilian. Katie is a lawyer who gave up practicing for the more challenging and soul-satisfying work of motherhood. They feel honored and unworthy to be among these amazing families reaching out to God’s dearest little ones. What characterizes this couple most is how ordinary they are (although their kids are pretty special!). Yet somehow God has called them to “be the ones” to this precious child. They are overjoyed, and anxious to do His will. They feel that despite their ordinariness, their family has lots of love to share, and suspect it is their lives that will be blessed more by this child than they will ever be able to bless him. They offer their deepest thanks for helping them bring this angel-boy into their family.

| The Herrick Family--Hamilton, OH
The Herricks have been married for 7 years and live just north of Cincinnati in Fairfield. Colleen is a pharmacist and Rich is a stay-at-home-dad. They are the parents of a four-year-old little boy named Colin. Their little boy has many challenges. He is unable to talk, but he communicates with signs and gestures. He has taught mom and dad a lot about patience and love. A couple of years ago the Herricks felt God calling them to add another child to their family through adoption and started their adoption process by submitting a dossier to Russia for a baby boy. While waiting for a referral in Russia, they came across the Reece’s Rainbow page. It was there they first saw a picture of Ellie. Their first thought was that Ellie looks like Colin and is deaf so she probably communicates with signs like their son. But the idea of adopting her was dismissed. She was too old and in the wrong country. She was also special needs and they didn’t feel they could handle another child with special needs. They wanted a boy and had a completed dossier in Russia. Yet something about this little girl kept coming back into their lives. For months they prayed for Ellie to find a family. But as time went by it became clearer and clearer that God had chosen them to parent Ellie. At first this seemed impossible. How could they handle another child with extensive needs? But they started doing research on Treacher Collins Syndrome and found that treatment was available near their home. When Rich said that he felt God was calling them to adopt her, they made the decision to change countries and prepare a dossier for her country. Please help this family as they go through the paperwork-nightmare to switch countries, build a new dossier, and bring Miss Ellie home!! Your sponsorship of her adoption will be such a blessing for them! 8/25/08---DOSSIER SWITCH IN PROGRESS I have $20 in my FAMILY grant fund towards the cost of my adoption! |
