Waiting Children In Bulgaria

Our program in Bulgaria is a WONDERFUL option for those families seeking to adopt from Eastern Europe, but without the age cap, single parent, and long travel time limitations!  Read more about Bulgaria here, it is a beautiful country to visit!

Our partner in Bulgaria is Abba's Kids/Dream Adoptions.  Partnered with About A Child here in the US as your Hague accredited agency, you will work together with Antonia (Toni) Vladimirova, a well established and licensed adoption attorney in Sofia, Bulgaria, to complete your adoption.

The children are stunning!  They are typically olive-skinned, with dark hair and dark eyes.  There are many with blonde hair and blue eyes too!  They are mostly of Turk or Roma heritage.

Naomi (#29)

(child's name has been changed to protect their identity)

Girl, Born May 8, 2002

Miss Naomi was born via C-section with club feet and intervalvular defect II degree in her heart.  SHE HAS HAD SURGERY AND IS NOW UP AND WALKING!!

Recently, one of our families adopted a little boy with DS and clubbed feet from Ukraine.  They wanted to share this message with potential adoptive families in the hopes it will help Naomi find a loving family of her own!

"As soon as I saw that Naomi has clubbed feet, my heart skipped a beat. I pray that there is a family out there who will take the leap of faith to bring home a child with Ds AND clubbed feet. Xander has been such a blessing to our family and the journey that we are still traveling to help him overcome the obstacles of unrepaired clubbed feet, while stressful at times, has added to the blessings and the testimony of our adoption and his life.   If anyone out there is thinking about taking a chance on this little girl, please know that I have become quite the expert on clubbed feet and Ds.....and I'm always happy to talk honestly with anyone about our ongoing experience."

Anastasiya  (# 20)

(child's name has been changed to protect their identity)

Girl, Born 2003

Bulgaria

My name means "Resurrection"

This precious little girl really needs a family to help her get through some of her medical complications, and to provide the therapy she needs to be all she can!

At 4 1/2 years, she is still not walking...few self help skills, although she is making sounds.  Not only does Anastasiya have Down syndrome, she also has hydrocephaly, which have impacted her with cystic formations in the right hemisphere, several smaller in the left one, and widened brain ventricles. She has struggled with several bouts of pneumonia and upper respiratory infections.  We can't help but wonder what a difference it would make in her life and her level of functioning if she had a loving family to help her!

Regrettably, photos will not be available prior to dossier submission, however full medical information is available prior to commitment.  The lack of photos makes it so much harder for these children to find families, so we ask you to take a leap of faith to pioneer this program, and make it as successful as our other Eastern European programs have been!

For more information, please contact Toni Vladimirova at Dream Adoptions!

I have $0 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Derek was born with Translocation Down Syndrome.  He has an ASD and mild valve stenosis, but had surgery in June of 2006 to correct it.  Derek has struggled with some colds and upper respiratory infections, but he is doing well and is a happy child.   He laughs when tickled and played with, and has great potential in a loving family environment.   The last information we have about him is form July of 2007, so his skills and abilities have likely improved, and he is just waiting for a family!

Bulgaria

Isaac is doing SO well!  Despite his ASD, which he has had surgery to correct, he is crawling and ready to walk!   Cognitively he is showing wonderful coordination, interest in toys and his surroundings, and in building emotional relationships with his caregivers.     He has a few words, he is a very happy and smiley little boy, and he is described as "charming".

Isaac is still young enough that he will really benefit from a family environment and early intervention therapy!

PHOTO AVAILABLE Drew (# 3)

Boy, Born April 8, 2004

Bulgaria

Drew seems to be one of the lower functioning children, but may also just be a "victim" of his environment :((  At 3 1/2 years he was not able to walk or really even sit up by himself.  His medical profile reads:  "Male child at 3 years and 6 months with Down Syndrome who legs in his physical development and all spheres of his psycho-motor development – Coefficient of development – 19. The child doesn’t walk, doesn’t sit but when situated passively keeps in a sitting position for a longer time. He turns to his stomach and makes weak attempts to crawl. Manipulates actively with toys. He picks up toys situated aside, grabs them with two hands and transfers them from one hand to the other. He can keep hold of two cubes and hit them one against the other. He doesn’t understand praise and prohibition. He doesn’t make communicative gestures. With greater persistence and established good contact the child rejoices, smiles but doesn’t cooperate. He doesn’t understand and doesn’t carry out orders. He pronounces combinations of sounds and long syllables but doesn’t pronounce syllables as an imitation. He doesn’t seek the contact of the adults. He doesn’t interact with the other children. He doesn’t imitate the actions of the adults. He needs systematic psycho-pedagogical stimulation and kinesitherapy."

The wonders of a family, therapy, and proper encouragement and education could mean the difference between LIFE and "existence" for Drew!  Won't you be his hope??

Dominick is a wonder!!  Born prematurely, you would never know it now.  He is very high functioning in all aspects of his development...cognitive, gross motor, fine motor, speech.  He is doing so great!!   Look at all of these wonderful things Dominick is able to do!:   "He walks steadily, rarely falls. He climbs up steps with support but is afraid to go down them. He runs pretty well, climbs. He performs imitative movements in imitational games. He can hold a pen and draws horizontal and vertical lines within the limits of the paper. He carries out simple orders. He is very emotional and seeks the contact with adults and other children. Laughs and teases. He pronounces 4-5 rationalized words. Understands and carries out orders according to verbal directions. Eats independently. Drinks from cup. My FOREVER FAMILY found me! Valentin  (# 2)

(child's name has been changed to protect their identity)

Boy, Born 2000

Bulgaria

My name means "Healthy and strong"

Valentin is a big boy just waiting for his forever family!!   His medical profile reads: "  Male child at 7 years with Down Syndrome who is in a good health condition, good motor skills – moves independently, steadily and confidently, runs, climbs, goes down and up stairs without support, makes “forward roll”. Lagging behind to moderate degree in his psychical development is present with the child. He understands the speech of the adults and carries out orders. He makes attempts to pronounce one-syllable short words without connecting them in a sentence. He communicates in gestures and mimics with the surrounding people. He could be persuaded with words. Draws within the limits of the paper. Recognizes the parts of his body. When listening to music he joins with rhythmical movements of the hands and legs. He is communicative. He enters easily in communications with adults and strangers, as well as with the children in the group. He feeds himself with the regular food. He can’t keep himself clean. Drinks on his own from a cup. He announces his physiological needs with gestures, but is not dry through the night yet".

It is so hard to find families for our older children, especially the boys, and especially with no photo.   Please give Valentin a chance to be your son!

Regrettably, photos will not be available prior to dossier submission, however full medical information is available prior to commitment.  The lack of photos makes it so much harder for these children to find families, so we ask you to take a leap of faith to pioneer this program, and make it as successful as our other Eastern European programs have been!

My forever family found me! Graham (#30)

Boy, Born January 16, 2006

Bulgaria

Graham is such a high functioning, happy little love bug!  He was born with a functional heart murmur, but he has grown and developed so well despite his environment!  At 18 months of age, he was able to straighten up by holding on to a support and makes steps when up. He can walk when holding on to hands. He is crawling well, loves to play with toys, and especially loves looking at himself in the mirror!    Graham is emotional in his contacts with the adults. He distinguishes strangers from known people. He is happy when praised with “bravo”. He doesn't like the word "NO" so much!   He laughs loud and teases. He approaches with trust and curiosity in his contacts with children and adults. Graham has established emotional connection with an adult and demonstrates expectations from her. He experiences emotionally the separation after individual activities. Little Graham pronounces prolonged combinations of sounds and syllables when imitating adults. He eats with good appetite. When awake he is active and always finds something to attract his attention to. He seeks contact with the adults and the children – teases with them, tries to take away toys left to some distance from him. He carries out social gestures – gives his hand for “hello”, does pick-a-boo. He looks in the mirror with interest. He enjoys his image, touches it and smiles.

Graham is still young enough that he will really benefit from a family environment and early intervention therapy!

Molly is a little girl with amazing potential for growth and achievement!  Although she has signs of a Hemangioma hepatitis established in 2005, she is doing well health wise. She is able to feed herself and will do so well in a family setting!
