Our
"Older" Boys
(age 6+)
Considering that Reece is 6 now, it is really hard to think of him as being "older". Cognitively, he is still very much a 3 year old! But after an orphan has been sent away to the institution, after they turn about 4, their chances of finding a family decrease exponentially. These children truly are living on borrowed time.
The little boys on this page are all still waiting for their families to come find them. They have been waiting a long time, in various countries, in every corner of the globe :(
Even if you are not in a position to adopt one of these little boys, please share them with others you know and consider making life-saving sponsorship donation to our Older Boys General Grant Fund. There is a family out there for every single one of these kids....your financial gifts make it possible for them to afford the cost of saving one of these lives.
Maximize your donation by including the extra cost of Paypal's fees!
*** As of November 23, 2008, an $8000 grant is available for the next family who adopts a little boy from this page.***

Gunars, # 2 Boy, Born on June 8, 1999 LATVIA This handsome young man is almost 8 years old. He has grey eyes and dark hair. Gunars is described as very active, mobile, and social. He loves affection and personal contact. He needs continued physical therapy, as he does not walk on his own yet. This could be from lack of PT, or from being stubborn! He moves by crawling, gets up on his feet by pulling up on furniture. Despite the fact that he doesn't walk, he is very mobile! Based on the the doctor's observations, Gunars does not talk, does not understand language, and would be considered severely delayed. The only way to know this for sure is to have him seen by a US doctor. Gunars was born with a heart condition. Doctors recommend a gluten-free diet, ferment therapy, vitamin therapy, remedial gymnastics, massage, surveillance of physiotherapist, ergotherapist and orthopedist

Valentins, # 5 Boy, Born on October 31, 1997 LATVIA Valentins is a very handsome young man with blue eyes and dark hair. He is a calm and quiet boy who does not speak yet. He is in need of continued speech and global therapies. He does verbalize some things, but not words. Doctors observe that he does not understand language and does not react to his own name, but this can only be confirmed by a US doctor and family observations. Many children with Down syndrome have "selective listening" skills....this doesn't mean they don't understand you, it means they are ignoring you! Valentins is not potty trained yet and is still using diapers. He is able to eat by himself. Valentins is considered significantly delayed. He has asthma and is allergic to dairy products.

Andres Born September 17, 1998 Estonia I HAVE A FULL GRANT! Andres is living in ESTONIA, a former Soviet republic on the Baltic Sea west of Russia. Estonia fared much better economically than some of the other Eastern European countries, so their children are better cared for. The facility he lives in is an old Soviet era two story building. But the inside has been completely renovated, is very clean and homey, and they have all brand new furniture. The children live in "families"...groups of about 8 children. Each family has it's own living area, bed rooms, bathrooms, school rooms, and kitchen. I have just returned from visiting with Andres myself.
He is an absolute ANGEL. He is 9 now and is in the first grade. He
can TALK, he is potty trained, and is truly a perfect example of the loving,
happy, social, friendly children that children with Down syndrome typically
are. He understands Russian and Estonian. His
language skills are really coming along, so introducing English to him at
this point would be good. I know that Andres will really thrive in a
true family setting, with others around him who are typically developing.
His adjustment will be an easy one too. You will never regret
your decision to share your family with this handsome young man. Andres needs a family who is experienced with older children with special needs, and also who is experienced with international adoption and the behaviors that sometimes arise in children who have been living in orphanages their whole life. Andres is a VERY smart and loving little boy, and he will adjust well, but as with any child, he needs a family who is patient and understanding and can recognize his behaviors as "coping mechanisms". Andres' fees have been dramatically reduced, so with
home study, INS, and travel (two trips), you'd be looking at about $16k.
Both parents should travel the first trip (about 4 days), and then only one
parent must travel for court about 4-6 months later. That trip is
about 10-14 days. Traveling in Estonia is very easy and very safe.
Most people there speak at least functional English (those working in public
service, such as hotels, taxis, the airport, restaurants, etc).
Estonia is a great program for first time international travelers. For additional information about ANDRES, please contact Barb at Adoption Hope |

FOREVER FAMILY found me!![]() |
Valentin (# 2) Boy, Born 2000 Bulgaria My name means "Healthy and strong" Valentin is a big boy just waiting for his forever family!! His medical profile reads: " Male child at 7 years with Down Syndrome who is in a good health condition, good motor skills – moves independently, steadily and confidently, runs, climbs, goes down and up stairs without support, makes “forward roll”. Lagging behind to moderate degree in his psychical development is present with the child. He understands the speech of the adults and carries out orders. He makes attempts to pronounce one-syllable short words without connecting them in a sentence. He communicates in gestures and mimics with the surrounding people. He could be persuaded with words. Draws within the limits of the paper. Recognizes the parts of his body. When listening to music he joins with rhythmical movements of the hands and legs. He is communicative. He enters easily in communications with adults and strangers, as well as with the children in the group. He feeds himself with the regular food. He can’t keep himself clean. Drinks on his own from a cup. He announces his physiological needs with gestures, but is not dry through the night yet". It is so hard to find families for our older children, especially the boys, and especially with no photo. Please give Valentin a chance to be your son! Regrettably, photos will not be available prior to dossier submission, however full medical information is available prior to commitment. The lack of photos makes it so much harder for these children to find families, so we ask you to take a leap of faith to pioneer this program, and make it as successful as our other Eastern European programs have been!
